Company: Brothers Cider
Rsp: £1.89 per 500ml bottle
Competition: Bulmers Summer Blend, Gaymers Pear Cider with Berry Fruits

The consumer
Brothers Tutti Frutti pear cider is recognisably pear cider, but with definite overtones of other fruits. The bottle claims it's a blend of fruit flavours, but the slight chemical aftertaste raises questions about how closely related the ingredients are to actual fruits. It is very easy to drink, with the sugar almost completely masking any taste of alcohol. Recommended if you like your drinks very sugary.

The retailer
This cider combines all of Brothers' previous crowd-pleasing flavours with two new ones, blackberry and passion fruit. Although they probably wouldn't work in their own right, as flavours they complement the others pleasingly. The taste is refreshing and well balanced, with no one fruit overpowering the rest.

The label is typically colourful for the brand and should create strong standout on a shelf full of fruit ciders. This is an accessible cider and certainly one summer drink worth more than the sum of its parts.

The Grocer
Dyed-in-the-wool scrumpy suppers, turn away. Dreamt up at the Glastonbury Festival last summer, Brothers' Tutti Frutti will appeal more to the WKD crowd. Strawberry, lemon, toffee apple and blackberry flavours in pear cider make up this concoction though I detected hints of Calpol.

Like silly hats bought at festivals, this should've been left in the Somerset mud. Just as well Brothers didn't go equally zany with the price, wisely keeping it in line with similar summer-themed launches from Bulmers and Gaymer.
