The ACS has backed government proposals to combat illicit trade by introducing duty stamps for beer and the compulsory registration of alcohol wholesalers.

“If implemented in the right way, these measures will significantly reduce the opportunity for unscrupulous traders,” said CEO James Lowman. But he warned consistent enforcement would be necessary.

The HMRC’s consultation on alcohol fraud finished this week.
