Aldi store workers earn a sector-leading entry-level hourly rate of £12.40 nationally or £13.65 within the M25, plus paid breaks

Aldi has begun its Christmas recruitment drive, with 3,500 store roles to fill.

The discounter is offering permanent positions as store assistants, managers and cleaners, as it continues to expand its footprint.

Recruits will help replenish stock, assist customers and maintain store standards, while earning a sector-leading minimum hourly rate of £12.40 nationally or £13.65 within the M25, plus paid breaks.

The opportunities are part of Aldi’s continued growth, according to the supermarket, with 17 new stores set to open before the end of the year. Its UK estate already stands at more than 1,020 stores.

“Our mission is to make affordable, high-quality food accessible to everyone, and that is even more important at this time of year,” said Aldi UK recruitment director Kelly Stokes.

“Our colleagues are essential to ensuring Aldi shoppers have a great experience in store, and we’re once again closing our stores on Boxing Day to give them a well-deserved break as a thank you for their dedication.”

Aldi has upped its festive staff intake for 2024, having offered 3,000 roles in the run-up to Christmas in 2022 and 2023.

The discounter’s latest recruitment push follows both Sainsbury’s and M&S kicking off their search for seasonal workers earlier in October, offering 20,000 and 11,000 temporary roles respectively.
