Aldi has won praise from farmers for committing to source 100% fresh British lamb this Easter, with the NFU calling on other retailers to follow suit.

Noting that other retailers relied on significant lamb imports from New Zealand during the spring, NFU livestock adviser Tom Fullick said British farmers could produce lambs earlier “provided we get sufficient notice”, adding “if the supermarkets want it, we can produce it”.

Aldi claims it is still undercutting its competitors’ Easter deals with a whole leg of British lamb at £3.79/kg, compared with £5/kg in Tesco and Sainsbury’s. Morrisons offered a similar joint of British lamb this week at £4/kg while Asda offered an NZ joint at £4/kg.
