Asda has seen sales of locally sourced potatoes double this year at its stores in Scotland.
The ‘Ayrshire’ potatoes are clearly labelled with the Scottish flag and actively promoted in the store.
Local sourcing manager at Asda Karen Todd said that the retailer had seen “dramatic uplifts” in sales.
“Local sourcing makes good business sense.
“Not only does it mean we can reduce the number of miles food has to travel before it reaches our stores, but it also enables customers to support produce from their local community.”
Asda plans to stock locally sourced products at all its stores by 2004.
