Asda is introducing dedicated bays for fruit-flavoured wines in most of its stores and launching an own-label range.
The retailer’s Spritzini range (rsp: £3.87) comprises three 8% abv sparkling flavours - elderflower, lime & mint; raspberry, pomegranate & cranberry; and mango, passion fruit & coconut - and three 10.5% still varieties: orchard apple & blackberry; wild strawberry & raspberry; and vineyard peach & vanilla. It also includes Spritzini Elegance, a wine spritzer drink that comes in sauvignon blanc and white zinfandel variants (rsp: £2.75).
The range started rolling out this week, along with 13 branded fruit wine drinks, including Gallo Spritz and new flavours of Echo Falls Fruit Fusions, which has seen strong sales since it launched in Asda last July, according to the retailer.
“We’re passionate about making sure we have a wine range that suits all our customers’ tastes,” said Asda senior wine buyer Ed Ashley. “We launched Echo Falls Fruit Fusions range last year, and sold nearly two million bottles in the second half of the year, from nothing. That really showed us there is a customer that wants something with a fruit flavour in the wine category.”
The retailer is also launching Wine Atlas, a range of 17 lesser-known wines from France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Romania, Hungary and Chile (rsp: £4.97 to £6.67). The eight whites and nine reds, aimed at drinkers looking to be more “adventurous” with their choice, features label art in the style of vintage postcards.
