An Asda store in the Midlands is offering customers blood tests with their shopping.
Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals Trust has installed a senior hospital phlebotomist one day a week at the superstore at Great Bridge, West Bromwich, to ease the strain caused by the 38,000 monthly blood tests it carries out.
Blood test results are available the same day, and the trust plans to roll them out five days a week. "This service has proved very popular in the States," said phlebotomy manager Sukvinder Atkar. "We thought it was a natural step forward for us to expand our service, and provide a greater choice of location for patients."
The store also provides diabetes tests and blood pressure checks. "The blood testing service has been much appreciated by customers," an Asda spokesman added.
