Aspall has unveiled its latest NPD - a limited-edition 11% abv sparkling cider.
The brand will officially launch 1728 Fine Sparkling Cyder at the Aspall Tennis Classic at London’s Hurlingham Club on 27 June, with an eye to rolling the product out into “super-premium retailers”.
Only 1,728 bottles will be produced each year (rsp: £29.94/75cl).
The cider is bottle-fermented using champagne yeast, and includes a blend of culinary and bittersweet apples, which provides “optimum acidity levels”, said the brand. “With ageing, Aspall 1728 becomes increasingly full-bodied and complex, with an aroma reminiscent of brioche or toast.”
The new drink was “more than a match for champagne”, added Aspall chief executive Des Smith.
Supermarket value sales of Aspall’s flagship Suffolk Cyder grew by almost a third (32.7%) last year to £8.1m, on volumes up 31.2% [IRI 52 w/e 25 March 2017].
