As Homer might say: “Mmmm… ice cream.”
Beechdean Ice Cream Group is bringing The Simpsons ice creams and desserts to freezer aisles next year after securing a licensing deal with Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products.
The appeal of The Simpsons would enable Beechdean to compete with mainstream ice cream brands, said MD Andrew Howard. “It has the potential to be a multimillion pound range in the next two to three years,” he added.
The Buckinghamshire-based business will roll out take-home and impulse products in the first quarter of 2014 - a year that marks the 25th anniversary of both the hit TV show and Beechdean. “It’s too soon to talk about the specific products that are in development, but they will feature many of the characters from the show and will appeal to young and old,” said Howard.
Beechdean, which brought the Loseley ice cream brand back to market, already sells licensed products based on Nickelodeon children’s TV characters SpongeBob SquarePants and Dora the Explorer. The range has been expanded with push-up lollies and SpongeBob SquarePants 110ml ice cream tubs.
Beechdean will support the launch with marketing activity and the range is set to benefit from activity around the show’s anniversary celebrations. Created by Matt Groening, the first half-hour show aired in 1989. The series, currently in its 25th season, has won 28 Emmy awards and was named the Best Show of the 20th Century by Time magazine.
