Poultry specialist Bernard Matthews is aiming to make turkey a serious rival to chicken in the fresh portions market with the launch of a premier natural' turkey portions range.
The first wave of four products will be on shelf at the end of this month.
Two butter-basted joints in foil trays come with a separate sachet of either White Wine and Mushroom or Tomato and Herb sauce (rsp: £4.49, 640g), while the two turkey fillets are topped with grated cheese and crouton pieces and either bacon or a leek and mustard sauce (£2.99, 352g).
"The sector is dominated by chicken," said product manager Natasha Siree.
"But there's no reason why turkey can't grow the market further. There are plain, natural turkey portions and breaded products but nothing in between."
