Bidvest Foodservice has snapped-up South West-based Caterfood as part of ambitious plans to expand its UK footprint.
The acquisition will make Bidvest operationally stronger in one of two currently underserved regions, the South West of England and parts of Scotland.
Caterfood, which will remain under current management, delivers across the region six days a week from 40 multi-temperature vehicles. It offers free delivery and no minimum order value.
“The company is already a very successful leading foodservice supplier in the South West, with a real passion for service, which aligns well with our drive to provide service excellence and make customers lives easier,” said Bidvest Foodservice chief executive Andrew Selley.
“Operated by a strong dynamic local management team, the company has unrivalled local knowledge and a range of over 4,500 products including local specialities such as MSC-accredited local Exmouth mussels. This sits well within our decentralised model where we can utilise our national strength alongside local expertise to offer customers the service and products they are looking for.”
Bidvest said all existing Caterfood staff would be remaining with the business to ensure the continuation of its current service levels.
“One of the things we’re most looking forward to is having increased support for product and range development, so that we can offer our customers the best choice in the South West,” said Caterfood executive chairman Mark Felton.
Meanwhile, Bidvest has also frozen the prices on its new summer range until the end of May.
The Create Summer range features popular branded items and seasonal twists on the Bidvest own-label ranges, which were revamped in January.
“The Create Summer range has been developed to help those in charge of purchasing to select the right items to suit their business’ needs,” said Bidvest campaign manager Gail Bridgeman.
