Booker has recalled Happy Shopper tomato ketchup sold in Londis and Budgens stores because of the risk that some packs might contain pieces of plastic.
The 440g packs are from batch code 7269 and have a best before date of end March 2019. Booker said no other batches or products were affected.
The FSA warned the contaminated bottles could represent a safety risk.
All Budgens and Londis stores selling the product have been told to display point of sale notices that provide details of the affected batch and urging customers to return it for a full refund.
“We sincerely regret any inconvenience caused to our customers,” the notice says.
A Booker spokeswoman said the company was taking the “precautionary” step of recalling the affected product.
“We are asking all customers who have this batch not to consume it and return it for a full refund. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
