Budgens has relaunched and repackaged its potato range to boost sales.
The chain of small supermarkets has chosen a more upmarket look for packs of spuds, with each line offering advice on how best to prepare and cook the variety. The information is printed on a black background, above a prominent Red Tractor mark, to give a premium feel to the pack. On the back is a picture and a profile of a typical farmer.
"Potatoes are an important staple and we felt it was important to develop clear labelling with useful information," said trading manager Steve Normington. "It has also given us a great opportunity to highlight the differences between the varieties, explaining what each is best for."
The range includes standard white potatoes, baking potatoes, Maris Piper and King Edward/Desiree.
The initiative follows similar successful moves to relaunch meat, fish and cheese over the past 12 months.
