London distillers Burnt Faith and East London Liquor Co have teamed up to launch a limited-edition apple brandy.
East London Apple Brandy (rsp: £60/70cl) will launch next month via Burnt Faith’s DTC site. Profits from its sale will go to the Urban Orchard Project, a charity dedicated to the creation and restoration of community orchards.
Limited to just 400 bottles, the tipple was created from a dabinett cider made by Burnt Faith founder Simon Wright when he was still running urban cider brand Hawkes.
The cider was distilled at East London Liquor Co in 2018 and aged for six years in ex-bourbon casks, before being blended with juice from Annie Elizabeth apples sourced from local orchards.
It offered “a punch of crisp citrus on the nose”, “toffee apple and elderflower notes on the palate” and an “autumnal honey finish”, said Burnt Faith.
It could be enjoyed neat over ice, as an aperitif or in cocktails such as the Sidecar and Hot Toddy, the Walthamstow-based distiller added.
The label features artwork by east London artist Eynon Jones.
“This collaboration is further proof that Burnt Faith is not only all about exploration and pushing boundaries but also about community,” said Wright. “For us, this isn’t just about making great spirits; it’s about connecting with our roots, creating something special with friends and giving back at the same time.”
Wright set up Burnt Faith in 2023 after stepping away from Hawkes, which was bought by BrewDog in 2018.
Its leadership team also includes former Sipsmith and Warner’s distiller Oliver Kitson and ex-Rémy Cointreau exec Robert Carmichael.
The brand’s flagship Batch One brandy sealed a listing in Tesco in June.
