Consumers are unaware that some food manufacturing and catering companies use imported eggs in traditionally British foods, according to the British Egg Products Association.
BEPA said research showed 80% of consumers felt that using British eggs in manufactured products was important, yet almost a third of products tested by BEPA contained imported eggs. It has launched a campaign called Best of British in a bid to urge companies to buy British Lion Quality egg products.
The drive, fronted by a new logo, is being backed by several leading food companies that currently use British Lion Quality egg products, including McDonald’s and Tryton Foods, which manufactures Aunt Bessie’s Yorkshire Puddings.
