Tropicana Smoothies is making its TV debut next week as PepsiCo ramps up plans to take on Innocent and grow the smoothies sector to £300m in the next two years. A television advertising campaign, which will run throughout this year, forms part of a £5m spend for 2008 including press, online and sampling. The 20-second commercial shows a range of exotic fruits exploding like fireworks and carries the strapline 'A spectacular blend of the finest fruit'. Tropicana Smoothies was launched in supermarkets last month. The value of the smoothies market currently stands at £210m, making it the second-biggest segment in the chilled sector. It is currently led by Innocent Drinks, which grew sales 60.6% to £131.4m last year [Nielsen].
