Carlsberg UK has promoted Darran Britton, brands director for ales and lagers, to the position of marketing director.
In a new role, Britton will become a member of Carlsberg UK’s board of directors and will take responsibility for managing a combined brand and marketing team of 47 with budget responsibilities of £40m.
Carlsberg said that his key priority would be to drive profitable growth across all Carlsberg UK brands.
Britton has worked at
Carlsberg UK for 13 years, joining the company as a graduate trainee. Since then he has held numerous positions, including assistant brand manager and brand and marketing manager for Tetley’s.
In 2001 he was promoted to the position of brands director of ales before taking up the role of brands director for ales and lagers in 2004.
Britton said: “I am very grateful to the company for the opportunities it has provided me in developing my career and I look forward to drawing on the depth of brand knowledge and consumer insights that I have gained over the years to aid me in my new role.”
Doug Clydesdale, chief executive officer of Carlsberg UK, added: “I am really pleased to welcome Darran on to the board as marketing director.
“He has been a great asset to Carlsberg UK since he joined 13 years ago. He has a great insight into our business.”
Waitrose has said that it is still looking for a replacement for its director of buying Angela Megson, who left the retailer last month after three years in the role. A spokeswoman for Waitrose said that there was still “no news” on a successor.
Sainsbury is continuing the expansion of its Tu clothing range with two new members joining its buying team. Melinda Harris joins as head of buying for ladieswear, while Mark Baxter becomes head of buying for menswear.
Usdaw has appointed Jeff Broome as its new president. Broome works at Boots Logistics in Nottingham and has served on the union’s executive council for 12 years. He will replace Marge Carey.
Cadbury Schweppes has appointed Orange chief executive Sanjiv Ahuja as a non-executive director.
