Technical difficulties plunged Sainsbury’s online ordering system into chaos this weekend as customers faced late delivery and cancellations.
Shoppers took to Twitter on Saturday to complain they had not received groceries in their scheduled time slot without any explanation.
Customers also reported trouble getting through on the helpline as Sainsbury’s said it was experiencing “extremely high call volumes”.
While some customers received their deliveries later on in the day, other orders were cancelled. Sainsbury’s said it had texted all affected customers and created extra delivery slots this week.
The Grocer understands about 38 stores were affected and that an IT glitch sent old orders to be processed instead of the latest batch.
Sainsbury’s did not comment on the scale or reason behind the glitch but said: “For a short time on Saturday, a technical issue affected deliveries to a small number of online customers. We contacted impacted customers to apologise for the inconvenience and to rearrange deliveries.”
