Charlie Bigham’s has relaunched its Shepherd’s Pie and Cottage Pie with improved recipes.

The Shepherd’s Pie is now all lamb, rather than a mixture of beef and lamb, and also contains thyme and a sauce with more tomato. The Cottage Pie has a richer sauce with rosemary and red wine stock, and a new garnish with parmesan cheese and breadcrumbs.

The Cottage Pie (rsp: £7) went on sale in Waitrose and Sainsbury’s stores this week, with the Shepherd’s Pie to follow in the next few weeks.

“We are always looking to enhance our existing recipes to improve their flavour and quality,” said Charlie Bigham. “Our Cottage Pie and Shepherd’s Pie have always been a popular choice with our customers, and we hope that with our new recipes they will prove even more of a success.”

Bighams Ltd, the registered name of the wider group, boosted revenues 11.1% from £26.6m to £29.6m in the year ended 31 August 2014, according to accounts just filed at Companies House in June. Pre-tax profits at Bighams fell back 22.9% in the period from £2m in 2013 to £1.6m as administrative costs rose and the company continued to invest in future growth.
