Clearabee

The Co-op has signed a multimillion-pound deal with on-demand waste removal business Clearabee to provide a removal service for all the society’s unplanned rubbish.

The three-year ‘reactive waste’ contract covers all unexpected waste, such as rubbish fly-tipped in car parks or food spoiled from a freezer breakdown.

Clearabee will provide the service to all the Co-op Group’s 2,500 retail stores and 1,000 funeral homes.

It expects more than 5,000 on-demand waste collections annually, which will be routed through its in-house team of 250 staff and 100-strong fleet.

Abbie Case, senior contract manager, Co-op Group Property, said Clearabee had proven it could support the society’s business “reliably, at scale and precisely when and where” it needed it to.

“Our innovative approach and nationwide reach means we can respond rapidly and efficiently to the Co-op’s waste removal requests, and cut its cost associated with removing unplanned rubbish,” added Clearabee founder and MD Daniel Long.

Clearabee won the contract from Biffa, one of the big five waste giants.
