Keith Darwin is retiring as chairman of the Co-operative Group board in May next year. A former chief executive of the Lincoln Co-operative Society, he has held the post since 2000.
Bob Burlton has been elected chairman designate by the Co-operative Group board
Burlton has been a director of the society for the past 11 years and has also been chief executive of the Oxford, Swindon and Gloucester Co-op since 1987 and he will retain that role. During his time there sales have risen to £330m.
Burlton said: “I am honoured and delighted to be elected the next chairman of the Co-operative Group and I would like to pay tribute to Keith, who has steered the group through major changes in recent years.”
