The Co-operative Food is teaming up with consumer delivery specialists Hermes to roll out a parcel service from 450 branches.
The service, called ParcelShop, has been successfully trialled at 42 stores with staff in the additional stores now trained to run it.
Customers will be able to send parcels, including unwanted internet purchases, and specify their local Co-op store as an alternative delivery address to their home one for collection at their convenience.
Chris Whitfield, The Co-op’s retail and logistics director, said ParcelShop was another way in which the retailer could enhance the communities in which it operated.
“The pilot scheme clearly demonstrated that the Hermes ParcelShop service is used and appreciated by many of our customers and so we are delighted to extend it to many more stores.”
“This partnership focuses on convenience, with consumers being able to buy groceries whilst also sending parcels, collecting or returning their online purchases, and vice versa,” said Hermes CEO Carole Woodhead.
The Co-op said it would be seeing how the next tranche of rollouts went before deciding on spreading the ParcelShop service to yet more branches.
