The Coconut Collaborative is making a play for the children’s dairy-free market with Little Coco Nutters, a range of chilled yoghurt alternative pouches.
Three flavours make up the range: strawberry & banana; peach & apricot and mango & passionfruit, with the latter set to go on sale in Sainsbury’s from 8 December (rsp: £1.30/90g). Strawberry & banana and peach & apricot SKUs rolled into stores on 23 November.
The range’s dairy free, no added sugar and gluten free credentials are signposted on-pack. The pouch format is aimed at the convenience market.
Little Coco Nutters represented the UK’s first calcium fortified dairy-free pouches for the kids market, the brand said.
Coconut Collaborative MD James Averdieck told The Grocer the move was a natural next step in a market where flexitarianism is on the up, but alternative products are often aimed at adult markets.
“Our new range of pouches under the Little Coconutters brand will establish our presence in the dairy-free kids market,” said Averdieck.
“Parents are more conscious of making healthy choices for their children, and with dairy allergies and gluten-free diets on the rise we saw a gap in the market to cater for these children.”
A spokeswoman confirmed Little Coconutters had plans to expand into other retailers from 2018.
The Coconut Collaborative’s other products include yoghurt alternatives for the adult market and dairy free ice lollies. It also has a presence in the US, France, Germany, Finland and New Zealand turning over in excess of £10 million annually.
