Hancocks has permanently shut four of its depots.

The confectionery wholesaler is currently in the process of reopening its sites following the temporary closure of all 19 depots due to the onset of the coronavirus crisis in March. However it confirmed this week that its branches in Coventry, Stoke, Croydon and Reading will not feature in this programme.

The wholesaler said the move was in response to an acceleration in demand for its online offer, which has doubled during lockdown.

“We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause, but assure you, as the UK’s leading confectionery wholesaler, we can still service your confectionery needs,” said Hancocks marketing communications manager Chris Smith.

“To be successful, Hancocks must respond to the trend of blending online convenience and a great retail experience. We are investing heavily in our remaining cash & carry sites, as well as providing an industry-leading online service.”

Hancocks has so far reopened six depots, with the remaining nine set to follow in the coming weeks.
