Buying group Confex is to launch an online marketplace to enable members to trade goods with each other.
From November, 224 wholesalers will be able to access the new platform through the existing member’s portal on the Confex website.
The move is part of a bid to enable wholesalers to trade branded or own-label products to which they have distributor rights, or lines with which members find it hard to be competitive.
Confex MD Tom Gittins said by collectively trading as a group wholesalers would be more competitive across a wider product portfolio.
The buying group claims it is the first of its kind to be launched. The marketplace will be monitored by staff at its head office in the Cotswolds.
A noticeboard and chatroom facility will be launched in conjunction with the new sales channel.
“This initiative has been driven by member feedback and we believe it offers a massive opportunity due to the diverse nature of the Confex wholesaler,” said Gittins. “We have members who specialise in certain categories and who will now be able to pass on their efficiencies and knowledge to other Confex members through an Industry-leading sales platform.”
