Meat supplier McKechnie Jess has secured listings with Asda stores across Scotland for a new range of ‘hybrid’ haggis.
Consisting of spicy and curry-flavoured haggis, it hit shelves last week (rsp: £1.50/454g). The inspiration for the new flavours arose on the back of a TV debate on how more curry is eaten in Scotland than the national dish, said McKechnie Jess sales director Ewan Anderson.
Asda is stocking a total of 18 haggis-themed items across Scotland in the lead-up to Burns Night on 25 January. It anticipates sales of the Scottish delicacy will rise 32% this year, up 10% on 2015 levels. Its Great Taste Event this month features 132 discounted Scottish products.
