American fried chicken chain Dave’s Hot Chicken has unveiled its first UK menu ahead of its opening in December.

The menu will feature four item combos and be available to customise with six different spice levels, from ‘no spice’ to ‘hot’.

The brand is yet to confirm whether it will sell its Carolina Reaper chicken item, which requires customers to sign a waiver before ordering it.

A taster session carried out on five people in the UK found them “in tears” and “running out of the taster after one bite”, according to the chain.

“After conducting taste tests here in the UK, we found the Reaper to be so hot that it left participants crying from the sheer heat of the spice mix,” said Dave’s Hot Chicken UK MD Jim Attwood.

“We are still in discussions as to whether the Reaper will make it onto UK plates. Of course, if the nation truly wants to test the hottest chicken in the world, we could be convinced.”

The chain is opening its first branch on Shaftesbury Avenue in London on the 7 December.

It was founded in a car park in Los Angeles by childhood friends Dave Kopushyan, Arman Oganesyan and Tommy Rubenyan in 2017.

Dave’s Hot Chicken is planning to open over 60 restaurants across the UK and Ireland in the coming years.
