Spanish fruit and herb liqueur Licor 43 is launching into the UK after Jamaica rum producer J Wray & Nephew took on distribution for the liqueur. It plans to build awareness of Licor 43 in the UK, cashing in on its popularity around the world. "It is an internationally respected brand that fits our existing portfolio of premium spirits," said marketing manager Mariam Ridley. The move comes as the distributor announced plans to launch an eight-year-old rum from Appleton Estate in the UK for the first time. Sales of golden rum in the UK off-trade have grown 27% in the year to December, according to Nielsen, driven by new listings. "Growing interest in golden rum has prompted this launch," said Ridley. "We have had requests for an eight-year-old for some time and felt the time was right to introduce it." Appleton eight-year-old, which is 43% abv, will have an rsp of £20.99 and be available from April. Licor 43 will retail at about £14.99.
