Eco Green Living is hoping to challenge Cheeky Panda with a range of biodegradable nappies made from bamboo.
The Eco Boom range includes certified compostable nappy bags, wipes and product bundles (rsp: £2.99-£149.10).
As bamboo was “seven times more durable, absorbent and softer than cotton”, the nappies were suitable for “the most sensitive of skins”, said Eco Green Living. The nappies, which also contain aloe oil to keep babies’ skin “soft and delicate”, are claimed to degrade within 75 days.
This was “a huge contrast in comparison to regular disposable nappies”, which could take up to 500 years to decompose, it said, adding that, due to the vast amount of bamboo available and the speed at which it replenished, it was “fantastic for naturally lowering CO2”.
Eco Green Living, which plants a tree for every purchase made, said it was “always striving to lower its carbon emissions”. The range was intended to “make direct changes to environmental buying behaviour in parenting”, it added.
According to Eco Green Living manager Julie Cook, bamboo was “an underrated material”. There was “simply no need for the historic standard disposable products to be on shelf”, she said, adding that the new launches were intended “to challenge the status quo”.
