RED BULL F1

Sainsbury’s has accelerated the rollout of aerofoil technology that helps boost F1 cars’ performance to reduce energy consumption in-store.

The rollout comes after The Grocer broke the news in January that the chain was testing the technology in its Buckingham Local outlet.

“We’re proud to be giving our fridges a turbo boost with this fantastic aerodynamic technology,” said Sainsbury’s head of refrigeration John Skelton. “Aerofoils help the airflow around F1 cars and can improve their performance - and that’s exactly how they help the fridges in our stores, by keeping the cold air in. This F1-inspired innovation has already shown it can cut carbon.”

Craig Wilson, managing director of Williams Advanced Engineering, the company behind the aerofoils, said the technology had “global potential” and the savings in operational costs and emissions were “extremely promising”.
