Pantoloc Control (rsp: £6.90 for packs of 7s and £11.90 for 14s) provides relief from the discomfort of heartburn and acid reflux suffered by six million people in the UK. Manufactured by Novartis Consumer Health, Pantoloc is the first PPI (proton pump inhibitor) to be authorised as an OTC medicine across 27 EU countries. One tablet a day suppresses acid secretion for up to 24 hours. For short-term treatment of reflux symptoms, the tablets are not intended to provide immediate relief and may need to be taken for two to three days to see an improvement.

Flomax Relief

Flomax Relief from Boehringer Ingelheim is the first men's-only treatment for urinary symptoms caused by an enlarged prostate and is available in pharmacies without a prescription. The active ingredient, tamsulosin hydrochloride, has been the UK's most widely used treatment for lower urinary tract symptoms caused by benign prostatic hyperplasia for more than 10 years.

Available from pharmacies (rsp: £16.99 for a pack of 28 capsules), Flomax Relief can provide effective relief within one week of treatment, claims Boehringer Ingelheim.

Bonjela Complete Plus

Reckitt Benckiser's Bonjela Complete Plus (rsp: £7.99) offers sufferers of mouth ulcers a more convenient way to manage an ulcer with a product that is also fast and effective. The gel creates a protective barrier that covers and sticks like a plaster, protecting ulcers for up to four hours, soothing pain and aiding the healing process. It also comes with a soft precision applicator, for accurate and more hygienic application, which can be returned to the bottle after use ready for the next application with no need for rinsing or sterilising.

Vertese Skin, Hair and Eyes
Launched: May 2010 Brunel Healthcare's latest release is the first supplement on the market that targets skin, hair and eyes at the same time. It contains vitamin C and zinc, which can help maintain healthy gums; biotin, which is beneficial for hair; vitamin A, which acts as an antioxidant and benefits the skin; and lutein, a key ingredient for helping maintain healthy eyes.

Skin, Hair and Eyes has an rsp of £4.99 for 30 capsules. The Vertese range, which includes omega and evening primrose oil supplements, is gelatin-free and approved by the Vegetarian Society.
