Tesco has launched a lifestyle and diet book to encourage healthy eating and will label products in store to help shoppers follow the plan.
The GI Guide is based on the Glycaemic Index which rates carbohydrates by the effect they have on blood sugar levels and how quickly they break down during digestion.
It will be available in-store and online from this month, and by the end of the year 1,000 products will be flagged as having a low or medium GI.
Hamish Renton, Tesco GI project leader, said: “Customers have been telling us that they want more information on food labels and GI labelling is one way to give them this.
“Following the simple principles is accessible and sensible and a healthy way to help weight loss.”
