Ginsters of Cornwall has teamed up with Cornish chef Chris Eden to create a new Mexican Chilli Beef savoury slice.
Launching in Tesco stores nationwide next Monday (6 November), the NPD blends ingredients including Mexican ancho chilli and smoked paprika with dark black treacle and cocoa for “deep, rich, fragrant taste” (rsp: £1.70/170g).
Eden, who is head chef at the Driftwood Hotel’s Michelin-starred restaurant, developed the recipe after visiting a Cornish tin mine and hearing stories of miners who emigrated to Mexico in the 1800s to mine for silver.
“Being a Cornish lad, it’s really exciting to be working with one of the most successful and well-known Cornish food brands in the country,” he said. “The Mexican Chilli Beef Slice celebrates Cornish mining heritage whilst meeting the latest flavour trend for spicy Mexican food.”
The collaboration between Eden and Ginsters’ team of development chefs was part of the brand’s “mission to develop a range of new on-the-go products reflecting the very latest food trends, with a Cornish twist”, it said.
“Chris shares our values and desire to develop great-tasting recipes - he creates a small number of dishes in his fine dining restaurant every day, and we bake millions of savoury pastry products every week in our bakery in Cornwall, but we are equally as passionate about crafting our recipes,” said MD Kieran Hemsworth.
