Neil Jones, commercial director of Grampian Country Food Group, has become the third high profile figure to leave the group in a matter of weeks.
Last month Grant Mackie, managing director of Grampian’s beef business unit, left after 15 years. He was followed by David Salkeld, group chief executive, who left “on good terms” after two years at the group.
Jones’ departure follows Grampian’s recent decision to combine its commercial and marketing functions.
Grampian said that, as a result of the changes, Jones had decided to leave the business to pursue his career outside the
group. Grampian added that combining the functions would provide a more integrated consumer agenda and a sharper commercial focus. The new unit will be headed by David Knibbs who has been promoted from the role of group marketing director with immediate effect.
Knibbs joined Grampian in November 2003 from Leeds United FC where he was commercial director.
He has also held the roles of chief executive officer for Bulmers North America and national field sales manager for Masterfoods.
n As The Grocer went to press the T&G was taking legal advice on the continuation of strike action at the company’s Haverhill factory in Suffolk. The union is in dispute with the company over a decision to end a final salary pension scheme.
Michael Bailey, CEO of foodservice company Compass Group, is stepping down. Compass said that Bailey would continue in his role until Sir Roy Gardner becomes chairman in 2006. Bailey’s pending departure comes as Compass issued its third profit warning in less than a year.
John Revess, former Colgate-Palmolive head of UK Oral Care, has joined Rexam Beverage Can Europe and Asia as director of marketing. In his new role he will aim to strengthen Rexam’s position as the largest beverage can maker in the world, and explore market opportunities.
