With the greatest number of items on promotion (15) Morrisons had the cheapest basket this week. Half-price Häagen Dazs and the cheapest pineapple (£1) helped it move three places up the table.
Tesco held onto second place this week. It had the greatest number of price-only promotions (8), including Guinness Draught, Fox's Glacier Mints and Plenty kitchen towels, which contributed to its six cheapest items. This week's basket also offered the best saving on the previous week (£1.33).
Asda offered the greatest number of cheapest items (7) and eleven promotions, including round-pound deals on Mr Kipling Bakewell Slices and Kingsmill 50/50. However, this was not enough to make up the difference on Tesco and Morrisons' deeper discounts.
On a 50%-off deal, the 7UP Free was Sainsbury's only cheapest item. The retailer offered the highest proportion of multibuy offers, including two-for-£2.50 on Maris Piper potatoes and two pineapples for £3.
Waitrose had the only basket that cost more than £60 this week. It failed to offer any of the cheapest items and only price-matched four. Its frozen king prawns (£4.59) were more than twice the price of its nearest rival's.
