Müller Dairy UK has parted company with general manager Andrew Harrison, less than 18 months after he took over at the helm of the yoghurt giant.
Harrison, who is understood to have left without a job to go to, joined Müller from Nestlé Rowntree, where he was director of marketing for four years.
He was recruited in January last year, replacing Ken Wood, to oversee the next stage of the company’s expansion. Wood, who was promoted to a new role to develop Müller’s business outside Europe, subsequently left to head Weetabix.
An insider said Harrison had failed to impress his German
bosses at Müller HQ and that sales had been disappointing, even though Müller remains by far the largest yoghurt brand in the UK. According to The Grocer’s latest annual Top Products Survey, sales dipped 3.5% last year.
In an interview with The Grocer earlier this year, Harrison said Müller was “a fantastic place to be” and that he still saw opportunities for further growth.
In a statement, the company - which earlier in the week insisted Harrison was on holiday - confirmed he would be leaving, effective from June 30. It added: “We would like to thank Andrew for his contribution and wish him every success.”
Prior to Nestlé, Harrison was marketing director for Coca-Cola GB. He was also responsible for the acquisition of Schweppes/Dr Pepper from Cadbury.
Joanna Denney-Finch, chief executive of the IGD, has been named as chair of the Food Chain Centre. She replaces Dame Deirdre Hutton, who is stepping down to become chair of the Food Standards Agency.
Greencore Group has appointed Geoff Doherty as group development director. He will be responsible for all acquisitions and disposals, major group projects and its cost reduction programme. Greencore has also appointed Patrick Coveney as chief financial officer. Meanwhile, former Greencore Group chief executive officer Gerry Murphy has been appointed a non-executive director at Reckitt Benckiser.
Paul Hewitt has been promoted to deputy chief executive of The Co-operative Group. He will be responsible for its specialist businesses, including Funeralcare, Travelcare and Pharmacy.
