A new membership organisation dedicated to tackling food safety and authenticity issues has been formally launched by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH).
The Institute of Food Safety, Integrity & Protection (TIFSIP) was initially unveiled last summer and counts food fraud expert Professor Chris Elliott as its advisory board chairman.
Now fully open for business, TIFSIP is targeted at people working in food production, manufacture, processing, preparation, quality control, regulation and sales, and will offer members professional training, knowledge and advice on good practice, networking and other educational opportunities.
“Modern food production, manufacture and delivery systems to the consumer are increasingly complex,” said CIEH CEO Graham Jukes, who added that the organisation will focus on enabling collaboration across the food industry, government agencies, regulators and other professional bodies “to support the co-ordination of good practice and standards in an ever changing world”.
Existing members of the CIEH are eligible for free membership of TIFSIP.
The body was the first output of an ongoing programme to keep CIEH services “relevant to all professionals engaged in health and consumer protection”, he added, and was particularly relevant to those specialising in food safety who are not currently CIEH members.
