Tesco has opened a state of the art distribution centre in Hercegahlom, Hungary, that will handle over 80% of its goods centrally. Featuring a radio frequency, paperless picking system and fully computerised cross docking, the facility is the most technologically advanced in central Europe by some measure, claimed a Tesco spokesman. The centre will run 24 hours a day, six and a half days a week, slashing lead times from store ordering to delivery to 24 hours.Hungary is Tesco's second largest overseas operation after Thailand, with 2.1m sq ft of selling space and 48 stores.
