London-based Holland Bazaar Cash & Carry has acquired Hyperama Wholesale’s Peterborough depot.
Holland Bazaar said the acquisition was part of a long-term strategy to increase its presence outside London.
The company stated it would be looking for further opportunities to acquire additional cash & carry businesses or distribution hubs in the future.
It will work with the existing Peterborough staff and offer further employment opportunities in the local community to grow the business and improve the customer experience, it added.
“This is the first foray outside of London for Holland Bazaar, with a new market demographic, different product ranges and a fresh challenge for the business,” said a Holland Bazaar spokesman.
“We will always be looking out for further opportunities and if it is the right fit for our business we will act accordingly.”
Hyperama said the sale of the depot signalled its desire to focus attention on grocery wholesale, with Peterborough having been primarily focused on foodservice.
Earlier this month it confirmed the sale of its foodservice delivered business Tiger Foods, to Giro Foods.
“Peterborough is a predominantly foodservice-led depot, and as such Holland Bazaar is well placed to take the reins, giving my team and I the ability to focus on our retail business from our Nottingham and West Bromwich depots,” said said Hyperama MD Marcus Singh.
Holland Bazaar is a member of the Confex buying group, while Hyperama is a long-standing Unitas member.
Unitas Wholesale MD John Kinney said: “I look forward to working with Marcus and the Hyperama team now on their strategy to consolidate and focus on retail operations out of their Nottingham and West Bromwich depots.”
