Home-cooked meal marketplace Cook My Grub has launched nationwide availability of chilled ready meals.
The marketplace – which launched in 2020 – connects consumers with more than 300 chefs cooking meals in their home kitchens, and has been described as ‘Etsy for food’.
Having delivered more than 10,000 orders to customers to eat on arrival, the marketplace is now offering a chilled meal option.
The chilled meals are delivered in cooler boxes and are precooked. Once received, the customer simply reheats the food as instructed. All dishes have a two-day shelf life and are suitable for home freezing, and come in reusable and dishwasher-safe containers.
Given the meals are chilled and have a shelf life, Cook My Grub is now able to reach a broader customer base. Until now, the marketplace only delivered to customers in major towns across West London, Berkshire, and Buckinghamshire.
Cook My Grub said the majority of the chefs signed up to the local hot food delivery service had also signed up to the ready meals service and offer both options.
There are also several new chefs across London who have started trading on the platform exclusively offering chilled ready meals.
“We couldn’t be more excited about expanding our food business across the country and continuing in our nationwide mission – to introduce people to exciting world cuisines, and help chefs build a business on our platform,” said Cook My Grub founders Dinesh Patil and Shabbir Mookhtiar in a statement.
All Cook My Grub chefs have registered their businesses and conducted hygiene and allergy checks, and trained in allergy awareness and Food Hygiene Level 2. Most chefs receive a five-star hygiene rating, Cook My Grub said.
“As the leading food delivery marketplace for home-cooked food, we are following the framework defined by the Food Standards Authority to help systemise a previously unorganised industry and put an end to food exchanging hands without regulations on Whatsapp, Facebook or NextDoor,” Patil explained.
The marketplace said some of its chefs earn as much as £25,000 a year through the platform, many of whom had never worked as chefs before.
