Bestway acquired Sher Bros in April this year for an undisclosed sum.
Since taking on the wholesaler, Bestway has been busy transforming Sher Bros’ 45,000 sq ft depot in Kilbirnie Street, Glasgow, into a 110,000 sq ft ‘one-stop shop’ for the city’s retailers and caterers – adding new departments, ranges and products.
The old Sher Bros depot was aimed at caterers, but Bestway has introduced a comprehensive range for both retailers and caterers including fresh, chilled, frozen, alcohol, butchery, world foods, ethnic ingredients and own-label.
The depot, which is Bestway’s eighth in Scotland and 63rd in total, was officially launched yesterday (31 July) by Bestway chairman Sir Anwar Pervez and CEO Zameer Choudrey.
Choudrey said Bestway’s arrival in the city would “see the retail and wholesale dynamic in Glasgow change for the better” by giving its customers “more choice, value, support and flexibility”.
In a nod to the Commonwealth Games currently being held in Glasgow, Choudrey said: “It’s true we may not have the glitz and razzamatazz of another opening ceremony that took place not so far away from here last week. But I can assure you that today will have a much greater bearing on your business than any other event this year. In fact, than any other single event this decade.”
