Fareshare survey
The food charity FareShare is asking members of the food and drink industry to complete a survey to help convince the government to invest in reducing food waste. Participants can log onto http://tinyurl.com/zhdfl to complete the survey.

Union warning
The Irish shopworkers' union, Mandate, has urged supermarkets not to start a price war after the abolition of the Groceries Order. "Price wars can be damaging and cause casualties," warned general secretary John Douglas at the union's annual conference in Killarney.

Support for run
Tesco has pledged to support the Great School Run until 2008. The event, which will take place in June, is aiming to be the world's largest junior sporting event and is seeking an official entry into the Guinness World Record Book. More than a quarter of a million children aged up to 11 are expected to take part.

Flotation rumour
Speculation has resurfaced that United Biscuits could be planning a £2bn flotation on the London stock market. Reports suggest that a flotation could be imminent following the group's release of a 25% increase in full-year profit to £204m on sales up 4.7% to £1.3bn.

Fairtrade egg
The Co-operative Group has added its first Fairtrade Easter egg to its chocolate portfolio. The premium Truly Irresistible 300g egg (rsp £6.99) is made with cocoa and sugar sourced directly from the growers.

New bread plant
Northern Irish speciality breadmaker Easibake Foods, a subsidiary of Evron Foods, has deepened its commitment to the British market by investing in a new Welsh processing facility in Pontypool.
