Smith for Aquabella
Robert Smith has replaced Campbell Mitchell as managing director of Aquabella, the group that owns Hampshire-based New Forest Barramundi, the biggest indoor fish farm in Europe. Smith was managing director of frozen food company Garden Isle until 2006 and has since worked as a consultant for Onix, a Polish onion supplier. Aquabella invested £5m in expanding production at New Forest Barramundi in March and the company counts Harrods, along with Morrisons and Sainsbury's, as its customers.
Yates is BWS brains
Tesco has appointed Clemency Yates as its new technical manager for beers, wines and spirits. Yates, who joins from HwCg where she has been a winemaker for the past two years, will be responsible for ensuring products deliver "quality, legality and value". She will also become the day-to-day technical liaison with primary suppliers.
Meat group chair
John Geldard has been named chairman of the Association of Independent Meat Suppliers, replacing David Jasper. Geldard farms livestock in Kendal, Cumbria, and runs the Plumgarths farm shop. He has also developed a local food hub for Asda, supplying a range of regionally produced food products to the retailer. "John's expertise in bringing farming, meat processing and retailing together will be a big asset to AIMS," said policy director Norman Bagley.
Body Shop new boss
The managing director of L'Oréal's consumer professional products division is leaving the beauty products giant to become CEO of the Body Shop. Sophie Gasperment has been with the company 21 years, serving as MD for the past four. She will be replaced by L'Oréal's general manager Grita Loebsack.
