Wider IT role
The role of Colin Cobain, group IT director for Tesco, has been widened to focus on the retailer's international IT strategy. A spokeswoman for Tesco said: "Colin is going to be working on the strategic and development side of things, instead of UK operations. We are active from Ireland to South Korea and it will become unmanageable very quickly if every division is using different systems."
Owen replaces Stout
Bako Northern and Bako Scotland, which supplies dry, frozen and chilled goods to the bakery industry, has appointed Eifion Owen as purchasing manager. Owen was most recently site purchasing manager for Cavagham & Gray and has spent more than 20 years operating in professional procurement environments. Owen replaces Irene Stout, who retires as senior buyer after 34 years.
Expanding team
Wine supplier Brand Phoenix has made two additions to its team. Renata Buckland joins the operations team as commercial controller, while Hayley Bromley joins the company's 'drive' team as field sales executive. Operations director David Dalton said: "With the business growing rapidly we simply needed more hands on deck to ensure we continue to provide a seamless supply chain operation."
Thornton joins FTA
The Freight Transport Association has appointed Chris Thornton as managing director for business services. Thornton joins the FTA from Autoglass, where he was strategy and IT director. He has also worked as development director and commercial director of RAC/Lex Autocentres. In his new role he will be responsible for the management and development of all FTA revenue-earning services.
