Israel is planning a 20% increase in its mango exports to the UK, according to Amos Orr, general manager of Agrexco UK, which markets fruit under the Carmel brand.
“We are expecting some 1,800 tonnes between the end of July and November,” he said. “This is a month longer than normal thanks to cultivation of new varieties and storage techniques.”
Apart from the internationally known Kent and Keitt varieties, Israel has developed fruit such as Maya and Shelly with smaller stones and less fibre, creating a speciality trade.
