Tate & Lyle plans to bring the Lyle's Golden Syrup brand bang up to date by extending it into coffee syrups.
Coffee shop lovers can already add flavours to their cappuccino or latte but there has never been a brand they could buy in supermarkets.
Lyle's Coffee Syrups come in four flavours: vanilla, hazelnut, caramel and Irish cream and in two retail formats: a trial 50ml size (rsp: 99p) and a 375ml bottle containing 30 servings (rsp: £2.99). They are available from the end of April and the company recommends merchandising them on the coffee fixture.
Tate & Lyle marketing manager Adrian Mooney said the syrups would establish a new category and therefore consumers would need to be educated so they didn't mistake it for a Cafinesse type product.
Launch support includes radio, press and poster ads, sampling and recipe leaflets.
