A salmonella scare that could affect up to 120 stores has forced Spar wholesaler James Hall & Co to recall two of its pulled pork products.
Routine testing identified the possible presence of salmonella in a small number of packs of Spar pulled pork, triggering a recall of 120 units from Spar stores across the north of England.
Spar’s BBQ pulled pork and woodland BBQ pulled pork were both featured in a 2-for-£3.50 promotion and have a use-by date up to and including 25 January 2018.
“Spar is investigating what caused the problem and is ensuring preventative action is taken,” said a spokeswoman.
“Spar has ceased the production and distribution of the product, all products within the stores have been removed from sale immediately, and no other Spar products are affected.”
She added: “Customers who have purchased the Spar BBQ pulled pork 110g are urged to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.”
