Jempson’s has started selling its own-label range online following requests from tourists eager to get hold of the products abroad.
The 100-strong GT Jempson range includes jams, marmalade, condiments, pickles and preserves and is named after the indie’s founder, George Thomas Jempson.
“We receive many enquiries from customers who have purchased an item from our GTJ range, either in one of our cafés or supermarkets, and then have requested items posted as they live too far away to just pop in,” said director Andrew Jempson. “There are also requests from overseas, from tourists who’ve visited, so making these lines available to purchase online was a natural progression.”
Sales so far had been “very pleasing” he said, adding that biscuits, cookies, cakes and gift packs would be listed on the site soon.
Director Stephen Jempson added: “We’ll be marketing via our website and Twitter, as well as in our cafés and restaurant, to capitalise on passing trade. This is our first venture into online shopping and we intend to move into other speciality areas soon.”
