As many as 84 jobs are under threat at Findus Group’s Humberstone Road frozen fish facility in Grimsby, after Sainsbury’s confirmed it had ditched Young’s as the supplier of some of its lines.
Findus started a 30-day consultation with 300 staff in the production, operations and technical teams last week. It would not confirm whether the redundancies were a result of the loss of the Sainsbury’s business. “The proposal is driven by the need to adjust capacity to fit current production requirement,” it said in a statement.
Sainsbury’s said it had recently ended its existing supply agreement with Young’s on certain lines. “We are making changes to our supply base that will enable us to continue to provide our customers with great food at fair prices, trade more efficiently and offer improved choice,” a Sainsbury’s spokesman added.
