John Barn has been named the Association of News Retailing’s new chairman.
Barn, who replaces Russ Simper, is news agency manager at The Co-operative Group, responsible for managing all news and magazines across the Co-operative movement.
He has been vice chairman of the ANR since April last year and has extensive experience in the news industry, including 19 years at Martin McColl and 18 months at Balfour.
“I will ensure we interact regularly with our members to share experiences and deal with concerns,” Barn said. “I would like to see greater collaboration between ourselves and other players in the market.”
Steve McCann, trading manager responsible for tobacco, alcohol and news at Costcutter, has been appointed vice chairman. “I will be raising the profile of independent and symbol group retailers, who struggle to have their concerns aired,” he said.
